Today, lets get to know a free Android app that
goes by the name "Rescue Caller". As the name suggests, the app assists users to
meet an unforeseen occurrence anywhere. When enabled, this application provides
the service of sending a message along with the location of the user to the specified
emergency number in a sticky situation.
We are amongst the first to create such an important utility App for Android users,
providing our community a safety feature they can use at a time of adversity. A
result of the Vinfotech Summer of Code where the project idea was conceived, the
Vinfotech Android App has been collaboratively designed and programmed by our dedicated
team of designers and developers to extend the company's mobile services to the
Android platform.
Designed specifically for Android, the app allows the users to:
1. Enter an emergency phone number to call and along with a custom
timer length
2. Choose a preference, SOS or TIMER which will activate the emergency
call accordingly
3. The app runs in the background so you can attend calls and perform
other activities while the timer is enabled
The app is most useful in situations for times you are exposed to a possibility
of an attack, robbery, health emergency etc., as you can activate the “Rescue Caller”
using the SOS screen of the application.
Here's a situation where you can use the Timer feature. Suppose you have a medical
condition and are alone in the house.
1. Select Timer in the Setup screen of the app
2. Now enter a timer length in minutes, example 30 minutes, and
confirm the selection
3. Now, hand over the Android phone to the user and have them press
the Start button. Now the timer has started and will begin a backward count
4. Clicking Restart before the timer ends will keep the timer running
and convey that the person is well
5. When the timer is not reset, and reaches 00, a call and text
message will be sent to the emergency number set conveying there could be cause
for worry
6. The whole idea here is to make a call as soon as the timer stops,
regardless of user’s current activity
